Safety & Security Film
- Delay or defer (an action or even) of an active shooter by harden windows
- Mitigates hazards from shattered glass due to natural and human causes
- Increases security and provides added protection against smash and grab burglaries
- Helps provide protection to people and property from flying glass in natural disasters
- Increases anti-spall protection for laminated glass
- Helps extend the life of furnishings by significantly reducing harmful UV rays
SECURITY CLEAR 4, 8, & 14 MIL THICKNESS AVAILABLE
SECURITY 8 MIL SILVER VLT 15
The reflectivity of this film makes an architectural statement. It provides privacy, holds glass together during breakage, and blocks a tremendous amount of solar heat.
SECURITY 8 MIL CLEAR VIEW PLUS VLT 70
A virtually clear, high-performance film that combines security with clarity. Reduces heat, makes glass safer, and blocks harmful UV rays, without changing the appearance of the glass. This is one investment that gives you multiple returns.
SECURITY 8 MIL NEUTRAL VLT 35, 50
A unique blend of metals that create a film less shiny than traditional metal films, with added security layers for added protection.
- NOT bulletproof
- Bullet will go straight through film and glass
- Will leave behind a bullet hole in the glass
- NOT impenetrable
- Only a matter of time before an intruder will gain access
- Depends on:
- Intruder preparedness
- Determination
- Tool usage
- Number of impacts
- Impact force
- Strength of film
- Strength of film anchorage system
- Strength and thickness of glass
- Size of opening required to gain access
- Film + strong adhesive forms a protective membrane on the glass
- Film is applied on interior side
- Opposite of attack face
- Protected from elements
- Does not prevent glass from breaking but helps hold broken glass fragments together
- Film attachment systems applied along perimeter to anchor the film to the window frame
- Forces intruder to create opening through center of broken glass giving responders precious time
Mode of Entry into Schools
Many schools have locked doors during operation
- Weak point is glass
- Most schools do not have bullet resistant glazing or even laminated glass, just tempered glass
- Shooter can easily get through glass with single shot
Fortifying Glass in Schools
Safety and Security Film with an attachment system is:
- Cost effective
- Easily applied and uses existing glazing
- Only a deterrent to help buy precious time to get to safety and to respond
- Optically clear film catches intruder off guard when attempting to break glass
Hardening is an offensive security measure; it stops the fight before it starts.
Sandy Hook Final Report 3-6-2015
5.57. Plans shall carefully address the extent to which glazing is used in primary entry ways, areas
of high risk and areas of high traffic and the degree to which glazing is installed or treated to be
bullet, blast, or shatter resistant to enhance the level of security.
5.59. Design windows, framing and anchoring systems to be shatter resistant, burglar resistant, and
forced entry resistant to the project forced entry standards, especially in areas of high risk.
Whenever feasible, specify force entry resistant glazing on all exterior glazing.
5.60. Resistance for glazing may be built into the window or applied with a film or a suitable
additional forced entry resistant —storm window.
Final Report of The Federal Commission School Safety December 18, 2018
A risk assessment can identify vulnerabilities and enable the development of a strategy to address
any security gaps. Effective security plans use a layered approach across all three areas of a school:
entry points, the building envelope (e.g., walls, roofs, windows, doors), and the classroom.
